Everyone will tell you this is a masterpiece, but, trust me, it is not, it is just overhyped to hell. The story never goes nowhere because of the infinite flashbacks and flashforwards and, please believe me, flashbacks of the flashbacks (I know, I know, how is this even possible?! but it is). Then when you finally think that things are moving forward they actually do, too fucking much, and because of that, you get more and more flashbacks and flash to the present (does this even exist?) and so on. Then there is the fact that the author purposely hides things from you, the reader, just to keep the "mistery" going on, for example, the reader is able to listen and see everything but when the crucial piece of information is shown only the characters can hear or see it. What is more, this manga does not even have an ending, you come up to the last page and think "that is it?". Yep. But then you read 21th century boys for another 2 volumes and think that you will finally be told everything, but nope, and you just get another bad ending.

Infelizmente e felizmente é meu mangá favorito, uma obra que me fez rir, chorar, passar raiva e me fazer feliz... nunca vou me esquecer de 20th century boys, o desenvolvimento da história e de cada personagem é simplesmente magnífico, tantos momentos específicos que ficam marcados no seu coração. Unica crítica mesmo é que o mangá é bem enrolado em algumas partes, mas continua sendo muito bom. Com toda certeza uma obra que é para poucos, mas recomendo lerem, não vão se decepcionar

20th century boys is by far one of the best manga i've ever read. i would say in terms of story it comes close to berserk.

There are some mangas that have completely no appeal in it's outer appearance. You look at the cover and think "Ugh how ugly". You read the description and think "Sounds boring". There isn't a single thing that may convince you to try this title out. And then some small event changes your mind - maybe a friend recommend it to you. Or you notice the author is the same guy who wrote another title you love. Or you read some spoiler and think it might turn out to be interesting. You start reading - first few chapters aren't that hot, and it looks like your predictions were correct. But why drop something after few chapters? You read a bit more, and the story starts to get interesting. So you continue. And then, few hours later, after night without sleep and a lot of volumes finished, you take a little break and the thought that occurs is - "WHy the hell haven't I read this earlier? This is unbelievably awesome and made of epic win". That's pretty much how 20th century boys are.
